Proving just how far she was willing to go to get the job done, Kate Hudson shaved her head back in July 2017 for her role in the upcoming Sia-directed flick, Sister, and she’s been embracing the short hair life ever since.

While Hudson has access to some of the best hairstylists in the world, she said during a March 2018 appearance on the Lorraine Show that she actually asked her youngest son Bingham and her director (and close friend) Sia to chop off her previously long blonde locks.
“My little one and Sia took clippers to it. It’s funny because when you’re doing it for a role you don’t really think about it because you’re just ready for it. You’re like, ‘Let’s do this.’ But when it was done, it was like: ‘Oh, my head’s shaved,’” she shared. “I really loved it, I actually miss it. My boyfriend [Danny Fujikawa] used to rub my head and it would put me right to sleep. I’ll never forget that sensation of just falling asleep to him rubbing my head. I’d never felt anything like that before.”

It didn’t take long for Hudson’s hair to return, and while many stars would have opted to forgo the time consuming grow-out process in favor of wigs and extensions, the Fabletics designer has been proudly sporting short styles ever since.
Over the course of the last two years, we’ve watched the How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days star’s mane evolve from a sandy brown buzz to a blonde pixie and, most recently, a chin-length bob. Proving short hair can be just as fun and creative as longer locks, she’s experimented with texture, accessories and, yes, the occasional hair extension along the way that complements her boho-chic style.

With the Band
We love a good hair accessory moment, and this cool headband she sported at the 2018 Golden Globes was the perfect match for her slightly wavy ‘do. If you’re looking for a pixie like Kate’s that has no extra bulk, celeb hairstylist Riawna Capri recommends asking your stylist for “as much weight to be removed” as possible using “texturizing shears" or “a point cutting technique.”

Modern Mom
With two boys at home and a baby on the way, we wouldn’t be surprised if Kate opted to keep this fun ‘do, which she added a side part and chic combover to for a Harry Winston event in April 2018, for a while longer.

Short and Sweet
To recreate the cool dimensional style Kate sported at the 2018 SAG Awards, Capri told Us to “make sure that there are no heavy lines or a build up of weight” in the cut so that “texture and movement” can abound.

Growing Pains
While we think the star looked gorgeous in her Michael Kors leaf embroidered bodysuit, slashed ruffle skirt and tousled style at the Michael Kors Watch Hunger Stop Charity Gala Dinner in November 2017, she joked on Instagram that her hair at the time resembled a young Leonardo DiCaprio.
